In recent years, the village has transferred over 300 mu (20 hectares) of mountain land and cultivated various varieties of kiwifruits that are suitable for local growth to help locals increase income.

“We will see a bumper kiwifruit harvest this year, with a yield of over 1,000 kg per mu (about 0.067 hectares). And now we are busy picking kiwifruits. We can pick 2,000 kg of kiwifruits per day.” Speaking of the farm’s harvest this year, the head of the base He Xiaoping was really happy.

He Feiyan, the daughter of He Xiaoping, said that because of the suitable climate and proper management this year, kiwifruit is generally large, fragrant, and sweet, with improved yield and quality.

As the fruit becomes famous, it is in short supply. It has also attracted orders from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Gaoshan Village is located in high mountains, with unique climatic conditions, sufficient sunlight and good soil and water quality. In 1996, He Xiaoping introduced kiwifruit seedlings and cultivated them on this land.

There are now increasing number of kiwifruit varieties. The sweet and juicy fruit with high nutritional value is highly favored by the market.

Among them, the soft jujube kiwifruit is compact, with a Vitamin C content that is 8 to 10 times that of ordinary ones.

The small kiwifruit brings considerable income to He Xiaoping’s family and someone who want to plant kiwifruits learn experience from He Xiaoping.

He Xiaoping hopes to drive villagers to become rich through kiwifruit planting. Now, he established a family farm, and many villagers work in the base or plant kiwifruits by themselves. Kiwifruits bring wealth to about one hundred households in the surrounding area, which helps improve rural greening, agricultural efficiency and farmers’ income.

In recent years, Guiyang County has actively developed various forms of moderate scale land management, cultivated and strengthened new types of agricultural business entities, and vigorously developed family farms and large growers.

It has also cultivated a group of county-level demonstration family farms with high visibility, independent brands, scale and strength, leading the surrounding people to develop characteristic industries, providing job opportunities for local farmers, and injecting new vitality into rural economic development.

In 2023, the county had 66 new professional farmers’ cooperatives, with a total of 1,168 cooperatives, and 78 new family farms, totaling 1,298. The number and quality of new business entities such as farmers’ professional cooperatives and family farms rank first in Chenzhou City.
