Winter melons planted in rotation help enrich people

Recently, in Zhangshi Community in Zhangshi Town, Guiyang County, villagers enjoyed a good harvest of winter melons, which will be sold directly to the Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area.
In recent years, tobacco, melons, and vegetables have been planted in rotation on winter fallow fields to increase agricultural efficiency and farmers’ income.
In the large winter melon field, the neatly arranged trellises are intertwined with vines on which large melons grow. A melon can reach an average weight of 15 kilograms.
The maximum yield per mu (about 0.067 hectares) can reach 10,000 kilograms. Local villagers were busy picking, sorting, packaging, and transporting winter melons to the Greater Bay Area.
The local government has also signed purchase contracts with vegetable companies in the Greater Bay Area to ensure sales.
Tobacco, winter melon and flowering cabbage are now planted in rotation in a year in the community, which has improved the land utilization rate and helped people increase income.
