According to a staff of the local natural resources bureau of Jiahe County, as of now, Jiahe County has invested about 35 million yuan in renovating and treating abandoned mines, with more than 200 hectares of mines restored. This turns the abandoned mines caused by previous mining into green areas, which effectively improves the local ecological environment and enhances the quality of people’s life.
Jiahe County is located in the southern part of Hunan province, with abundant mineral resources. A few years ago, due to years of mining activities, many mines were left abandoned, which seriously damaged the local ecological environment and brought considerable pressure to the local economic development.
In recent years, Jiahe County has actively carried out ecological restoration work to restore the ecological environment of mines.
Shanghai Weiming Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., a listed company, was introduced to build a waste recycling power generation project in abandoned mines, achieving the reuse of resources.
After the project was put into operation, it greatly alleviated the pressure of domestic waste disposal in Jiahe County, and completely achieved the reduction, harmless and resource utilization of domestic waste. From then on, the domestic waste in Jiahe, Linwu, and Guiyang counties has achieved zero landfill.
If the project processes 600 tons of domestic wastes at full capacity per day, it will process 219,000 tons of domestic wastes annually and achieve annual electricity sales of 66 million kilowatt hours, which will bring an annual output value of about 51 million yuan.
In addition, the local natural resources bureau also actively applied for the ecological restoration project of Jiahe County’s historical abandoned mines—the ecological restoration sub project of Chongling water coal mine belt of the ecological restoration demonstration project at the northern foot of the Nanling Mountains in the hilly areas of southern Hunan.
The project has an investment of over 50 million yuan and plans to repair 73 patches, covering an area of 171.98 hectares. The project will be completed in two years, with 12 hectares to be completed in 2023 and 159.98 hectares in 2024.
This project mainly includes terrain and landscape restoration engineering, mining land reclamation and vegetation restoration, etc.. The specific engineering measures include slope trimming, waste removal, soil covering, ecological planters, drainage ditches, trees and plant planting.
