In the Yaoxing Planting and Breeding Cooperative in Shoushui Village, Rucheng County, Li Limin, head of the cooperative, was sending baskets of monk fruits into the baking room to make dry monk fruit. This not only facilitates storage, but also increases the added value of monk fruit.
From November 2021, the village government worked to set up a cooperative and transferred 500 mu (about 33.33 hectares) to plant soybeans and monk fruit. Li Limin joined the cooperative from the very beginning and participated in the development of the monk fruit base.
He said that after more than one year of exploration, the monk fruit planting technology introduced got mature. In 2023, the yield of the monk fruit base in Shoushui Village reached 8,000 to 10,000 per mu (0.067 hectares), and the profit per mu hit 4,000 yuan.
The quality of monk fruit caught the attention of Hunan Huacheng Biotechnology Company. It signed agreements with the cooperative on purchase of monk fruit and technical services, laying a foundation for the further development and expansion of the monk fruit industry.
With the operation of the cooperative, more than 40 people in the village get jobs, the village’s annual income increases by about 500,000 yuan, and shareholders receive dividends.
To build the monk fruit into a leading industry, the village has continuously optimized its management mode. Now, 120,000 yuan has been invested to build a monk fruit drying plant and a freezer. 60,000 yuan has been invested in a monk fruit seedling base to extend the industrial chain of monk fruit.
