Recently, Linwu County was approved as a provincial forest city in Hunan Province.
The county government has started the construction of a provincial-level forest city in 2019. After about four years of efforts, the construction of the forest city has achieved significant results. The public green spaces have been expanded and improved, and the living environment in urban and rural areas have been improving.
The county government has carried out an ecological space expansion project throughout the county, with a green coverage rate of 41.71% in the built-up areas of the county and over 40% in the built-up areas of townships.
Three villages have been approved as national forest villages. The quality of forests has continued to improve, with the continuously strengthened ecological carrying capacity.
As of now, the county has completed afforestation of 442,000 mu (about 29,467 hectares), with a forest coverage rate of 61.03%. Ecotourism is flourishing, and the forestry economy is developing rapidly.
It has vigorously promoted the construction of ecological leisure tourism. The total number of tourists for ecotourism received by the county during the construction of a forest city exceeded 17 million, with a total ecotourism revenue of over 15 billion yuan. And the forestry economy has seen steady growth. The ecological culture is rich and the consciousness of creating a forest city is deeply rooted in people’s hearts.
Every year, it popularizes ecological knowledge and creates a strong atmosphere for the effort to create a forest city through ecological festivals such as World Wetland Day, Arbor Day and Bird Loving Week.
A total of 65 compulsory tree planting bases have been built, and efforts have been increased to protect ancient and famous trees in the county.
