Guidong bench dragon, a municipal intangible cultural heritage item, appeared at the 2024 Chenzhou Spring Festival Gala on the evening of February 5.

Guidong bench dragon is a unique folk art that has been passed down from generation to generation by Guidong people. It integrates martial arts, competition and performance.

Compared with other cloth dragon and incense dragon, it has such characteristics of short size and less space. It can be performed on stage or indoors, without being limited by space.

Two or three dancers hold painted benches and move about with the sound of gongs and drums, which vividly reflects the labor skills of the working people and their desire for harvest.

2024 is the year of Dragon, and the Guidong bench dragon performance as part of the opening dance of the Chenzhou Spring Festival Gala symbolized good luck in the year of Dragon.

The coiling long dragon, accompanied with modern technology and rhythmic drumbeats, conveyed the good wishes in the new year and showed the charm of the local traditional culture.
