Rows of Guangdong cabbage and celery were seen growing well at the vegetable base of Xinxingyuan Agriculture Co., Ltd. in Aoshang Town, Suxian District, Chenzhou City on March 5.
Li Lihua, head of the company, said that the base lures and kills insects through Internet of Things (IoT) insect information collection devices, and monitors the temperature, humidity, salinity, and pH value of the soil in real time through the soil moisture monitoring equipment, providing accurate data for precise management of agriculture.
The vegetable base, with an area of 1,163 mu (about 77.53 hectares), is a designated emergency reserve base for vegetables in Chenzhou City, and has obtained the certification of “Vegetable Basket” production base for the Guangdong-Hong Kong- Macao Greater Bay Area.
Based on advanced technology and high-tech equipment, the vegetable base starts to plant green leafy vegetables such as Guangdong cabbage and celery in a circular manner every February, and lasts until August when chili peppers are planted, in a bid to fill the vegetable supply gap in the Greater Bay Area and local markets in Chenzhou. In 2023, the vegetable base achieved an annual output of 6 million kilograms of various vegetables, with an annual output value of approximately 36 million yuan.
In order to enhance the quality and value of vegetables, Suxian District has established 9 vegetable bases with an area of over 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) as well as more than 20 vegetable bases with an area of over 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares), and certified more than 30 “vegetable basket” bases for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
Meanwhile, over 100,000 mu (about 6,666.67 hectares) of vegetables are cultivated through science and technology, and there are 30 vegetable green food certifications in the district.
According to the agricultural and rural department of the district, the vegetable output value has reached 210 million yuan in the past three months, a year-on-year increase of over 20%.
In recent years, Suxian District has introduced more than 60 policies to build important “vegetable basket” bases for the Greater Bay Area and the urban area of Chenzhou City, so as to help vegetable farmers boost income. The Matouling Base of Chenzhou Agricultural Science Research Institute, located in Suxian District, as the Xiangnan Experimental Station of the vegetable industry system in the province, also provides the research and technical support of vegetable seedlings and offers seedlings to more than 30 vegetable bases in the city.
