Villagers busy picking spring tea leaves

Tea farmers are busy picking spring tea leaves in the tea planting base of Rucheng Dingxiang Tea Industry Company in Jiangtou Village, Luyang Town, Rucheng County.

The company has over 2,600 mu (173.33 hectares) of tea bases in Luyang, Nuanshui, Quanshui and other towns, with varieties like Anji White Tea, Longjing Tea and Wuniuzao Tea. Among them, the Jiangtou Village Tea Farm in Luyang Town now has over 900 mu (60 hectares) of tea trees.

The picking period for spring tea is from early March to early April. The head of the tea base introduced that it’s time to pick Wuniuzao Tea leaves, with three to four hundred people to pick them every day.
 
With the one-month picking period and the demand for labors, the tea base has provided many job opportunities for surrounding villagers, driving local farmers to increase income nearby.

Rucheng County has a unique climate advantage and a long history of tea cultivation. 
 
Last year, there were about 68,000 mu (4,533 hectares) of tea gardens in the county, with an annual output value exceeding 500 million yuan.
