The vegetable base has a planned area of 1,200 mu (80 hectares) and a total investment of 120 million yuan. Relying on selenium-rich soil resources of Jiahe County, it mainly plants such selenium-rich vegetables like pepper, eggplant and lettuce. 

 

“We had been so busy during the Spring Festival holiday. From February 10 to 19, a daily average of 7,500 kg of fresh vegetables were sent to the GBA market. By 2023, vegetable sales reached more than 30 million yuan,” said Peng Jia, office director of the company. 

 

Jiahe is an advanced county in implementing the selenium supplement project and a key county in implementing selenium-rich project in Hunan province. In recent years, the county government has vigorously promoted the development of selenium-rich vegetable industry, improved the efficiency of agricultural industry, and increased farmers’ income, in a bid to promote rural revitalization. 

 

To sell more selenium-rich vegetables in the GBA, the county government has worked to promote the construction of vegetable bases and “Xiangjiangyuan” vegetable brand for the GBA. 

 

As of now, more than 100,000 mu (6,666.67 hectares) of vegetables have been planted in the county, with a total output of 204,500 tons. About 80,000 tons of selenium-rich vegetables have been sold to the GBA, and 14 vegetable demonstration bases have been established (including 3 vegetable basket bases for the GBA). And it helps increase income for over 16,000 farmers, and increases the village collective income by 3.668 million yuan. A number of agricultural product brands with unique local characteristics such as “Sanwei Pepper” , “Huasheng Cabbage” and “Beibei Pumpkin” have been built.
