In the tea garden of Jiulong Yao Village in Jiulong River National Forest Park, rows of Baimao tea trees are in bud already and dozens of tea farmers are busy harvesting tea leaves.
At the construction site of the Oulaokeng Baimao Tea High-standard Tea Garden, tea farmers were engaged in cultivating land, digging pits, and planting tea seedlings.
“This year, about 850 mu (about 56.67 hectares) of well-facilitated tea gardens have been built,” said Lu Maokang, deputy director of the Tourism Department of Jiulong River National Forest Park.
To strengthen the tea industry, the Jiulong River National Forest Park Management Office has jointly built a Baimao tea processing plant with high-quality enterprises and promoted the development of the Baimao tea industry from various aspects such as variety selection, seedling cultivation, tea garden construction, and modern processing equipment purchasing to improve the quality of the tea processing and standardized production conditions.
So far, a standardized greenhouse of 2,048 square meters for Baimao tea seedling cultivation and 30 mu (2 hectares) of land in Oulaokeng Tea Garden have been built to carry out tea variety selection to improve tea quality.
It’s planned to develop 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of high-standard Baimao tea gardens through self-financing and attracting investment to develop the tea industry. Jiulong River National Forest Park is the birthplace of Rucheng Baimao Tea and the core area for the development of the Baimao Tea industry.
Baimao tea, as a precious tea tree resource in China, is one of the four local tea tree resources in Hunan.
With strong buds and excellent quality, it is suitable for making white tea, black tea, and green tea, and contains various functional substances that can produce saliva and quench thirst, awaken the mind, promote digestion, reduce internal heat and inflammation, and clear away heat and toxic materials. Aged tea mixed with appropriate salt has a good effect on acute gastroenteritis and colds.
“The Daping Forest Farm of Jiulong River National Forest Park will continue efforts to expand the planting area, increase production, build brands, and enhance benefits in a bid to promote the high-quality development of the Baimao tea industry in Rucheng by optimizing tea seedling varieties, improving tea quality, extending the tea industry chain,” said Deng Gengxiang, director of the Jiulongjiang National Forest Park Management Office.
