Resident paints on fans to promote Yuhou Street

2024-05-17

As night falls, the brightly-lit Yuhou Street attracts a constant stream of tourists. At the Sima Ferry Pier, there are many people in front of a stall. The 59-year-old stall owner Deng Guangliang writes and paints on a paper fan according to the requirements of tourists. After a moment, paper fans with the names of old places in the street such as Sima Ferry, Rhinoceros Well, and Zhuge Dam, as well as plum blossoms, lotus flowers, and green bamboo are handed to tourists.

Deng Guangliang is a local resident of Yuhou Street, who was once a carver at a Chenzhou’s porcelain factory. He participated in the reconstruction design of Yuhou Street in 2011. “I have a deep affection for Yuhou Street. Now, as the old street is bustling with crowds again, I also want to promote the street and introduce its history by making some cultural and creative products to let more people know and visit the street,” said Deng Guangliang.
