In early summer, waxberries in Guiyang County are ripe. Many waxberry orchards have opened in late May, attracting a large number of tourists to pick fresh waxberries and receiving many online orders.
One hundred mu (about 6.67 hectares) of waxberry trees are full of large, plump, and bright red waxberries in Limu Village, Haotang Town, Guiyang County. Villagers were busy picking purple red waxberries, which can now be sold for around 14 yuan per kilogram in the market.
The ecological waxberry orchard in Limu Village has leased more than 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares) of collective land to grow waxberry trees. It is currently the peak season for waxberries to come into the market, with a daily sales volume of up to 1,000 kilograms. It is expected that the total production this year will be around 20,000 kilograms, with the net profit income of reach 60,000 yuan.
During the one-month harvest period each year, it can offer jobs to more than ten local villagers, with wages of about 40,000 yuan paid.
“Now we sell waxberries online and offline, and send it by express delivery across Hunan and to the Pearl River Delta. This year, we have joined the village collective economic cooperative with the hope to strengthen the waxberry industry and drive more villagers in the surrounding areas to increase income,” said He Juanjuan, head of the waxberry orchard in Limu Village.
