In recent years, Yangmeishan Town, based on its advantages of industry, resources, and talent, has formed a new model of “common-prosperity workshops” to solve the development problems of the sweet potato industry once faced with, like small scale production, scattered orders, and idle labor.

 

 

 

“The village belongs to a high-altitude mountainous area, so sweet potatoes here have a high starch content and sufficient sugar content. Previously, sweet potatoes were mainly produced and sold by farmers themselves, which led to dried sweet potatoes and sweet potato noodles with different quality, and farmers had low earnings.

 

Now, there are standards for production and sales in the “common-prosperity workshop”, and the villagers’ income has greatly increased,” said Ou Qunchang, Party secretary of Jigongtan Village.

 

The “common-prosperity workshop” in Yangmeishan Town purchases sweet potatoes and dried sweet potatoes and sweet potato noodles made according to the prescribed process from farmers by integrating scattered small workshops. They will be sold in the market after sorting, processing, quality testing, and packaging.

 

At present, the town has more than 4,000 mu (about 266.67 hectares) of sweet potatoes. Over 250 tons of dried sweet potatoes and more than 50 tons of sweet potato noodles are produced and processed annually in the workshop, with an annual sales revenue of over 10 million yuan.

 

 

 

Besides, the workshop provides job opportunities for more than 50 low-income farmers willing to work at the doorstep each year, which brings an annual increase of tens of thousands of yuan in per capita income. Farmers who have sweet potato planting and processing techniques and those who have transferred land can also obtain stable income. 

 

At the same time, household environmental hygiene is taken as one of the important criteria for purchasing products. Priority should be given to those selected as “star-rated demonstration households”, guiding villagers to cultivate good habits of keeping clean and promoting the industrial development of the village.
