2024-09-22

In the past few days, local farmers were busy planting strawberry seedlings in Xiaohe Village, Yanquan Town of Yizhang County, to further increase their income.

In the strawberry planting base, the neatly leveled fields in the greenhouse are lined with drip irrigation pipes. More than 20 skilled workers transplant green strawberry seedlings into the fields, and most of the workers responsible for transplanting strawberry seedlings are idle laborers from surrounding villages.

Small strawberries have brought new hope for rural revitalization. The strawberry base covers an area of over 20 mu (1.33 hectares) and has more than 30 strawberry planting greenhouses.

Cream strawberry planted here is introduced from other places. Newly transplanted strawberries should be watered two to three times a day to keep the soil moist and ensure their survival rate.

The strawberry planting greenhouse adopts facility agriculture management technology. Strawberries can be harvested by the end of November to next May. It’s expected to generate over 20,000 yuan per mu (0.067 hectares).

In recent years, the village has continuously adjusted its agricultural planting structure based on local conditions. Yizhang Lijian Planting & Breeding Professional Cooperative was introduced in the village to transfer over 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of land to plant fruits and vegetables like strawberry, grape, radish and pepper. This helps promote the integrated development of agriculture, culture and tourism, and achieves agricultural efficiency and increases farmers’ income.

“We have more than 20 stable job opportunities and over 50 temporary jobs all year round. Villagers can earn ten or twenty thousand yuan every year at their doorstep,” said Wen Lijian, head of the cooperative, adding that, they would work to strengthen refined management, make the base more prosperous, and provide more employment opportunities for villagers.
