Recently, the Lengshui rice (it refers to rice in cold areas) planting base in Quanxi Village, Datang Town, Guidong County has welcomed a bumper harvest of rice. 

 

 

In recent years, Guidong County has made efforts to build the regional public brand Guidong Lengshui Rice. 7 categories of rice have been certified as green food and included in the authorized products of “Xiang Gan Hong”.

 

In 2023, Guidong Lengshui Rice was mainly promoted by numerous mainstream media at the 20th Central China (Hunan) Agricultural Expo and Hunan (Chenzhou) Vegetable and Fruit Industry Expo, becoming a hot commodity in the grain market.

 

According to an official of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Guidong County, a relatively mature support system for field engineering construction, production and operation management, and industrial development has been established to construct high-standard farmland. Guidong County has assigned agricultural technicians to provide on-site guidance, promoted biological pesticides, standardized the use of low- toxicity and high-efficiency pesticides, and eliminated the use of prohibited pesticides. Compared to ordinary rice cultivation, Lengshui rice cultivation reduces the use of elemental fertilizer by more than 30% per unit area, and increases the use of organic and green fertilizers by more than 20%.

 

In 2024, Guidong County has planted 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) of Lengshui rice, and established 3 demonstration bases of over 500 mu (about 33.33 hectares), 8 demonstration bases of over 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares), and 5 professional demonstration villages for Lengshui rice planting. Besides, there are 22 leading enterprises, professional cooperative organizations, and large growers of Lengshui rice, which play a demonstration and driving role, such as Guidong County Longping High-tech Grain Planting Professional Cooperative, Hunan Fuyang Tianyuan Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd., and Guidong County Rongjin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd.

 

Guo Erkun, the head of Longping High-tech Grain Professional Cooperative in Guidong County, said that it’s expected to reach 550 kilograms per mu (about 0.067 hectares) this year, increasing by 10% year on year.
