In the past few days, in the Lengshui rice (rice planted in cold areas) planting base of Quanxi village, Datang town of Guidong county, five harvesters were busy harvesting rice, and large trucks loaded with harvested rice were travelling on the road between the fields. 

 

Datang town has convenient transportation, with the 106 National Highway, provincial highway S201 and Wuhan-Shenzhen expressway connecting the whole town. 

 

 

The water system is well-developed, with rivers such as Oujiang river, Jinping river and Zhongdong river passing through it. 

 

At an average altitude of about 1,000 meters, there is the subtropical monsoon humid climate. With a large temperature difference between day and night, long sunshine hours and abundant rainfall, it’s very suitable for the growth of Lengshui rice. 

 

In recent years, the town government has carried out actions to manage abandoned farmland and ban the use of farmland for non-farming purposes. It has introduced the Longping high-tech grain planting professional cooperative in Guidong county and Hunan Fuyang Tianyuan Ecological Agriculture Co., Ltd..

 

Through a development mode of “company plus base plus farmer”, it has vigorously developed Lengshui rice planting, driving over 500 farmers to plant more than 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of rice and rapeseed in rotation. 

 

 

In Quanxi Village, the planting base of Longping High-tech Grain Planting Professional Cooperative in Guidong County was crowded with villagers to watch rice harvesting. 

 

Guo Erkun, head of the cooperative, stood on the field ridge and shared with the villagers who gathered around the ridge, “We have selected two excellent varieties with good quality and high yield, this year’s yield will increase by about 10% year-on-year, with the yield per mu exceeding 550 kg.”

 

Guo Erkun said that promoting the application of new technologies and equipment such as centralized seedling cultivation, mechanized plowing and machine rice transplanting has greatly improved agricultural production efficiency and enhanced confidence in planting Lengshui rice.

 

 

With all villages and groups in the town radiating from the 800-mu (53.33 hectares) Lengshui rice planting base in Quanxi village, the cooperative and the company guide villagers to actively engage in it through the joint mode of “company plus base plus farmers”. Now, the Lengshui rice planting area in the town has increased to 8,000 mu (533.33 hectares), and the total output of Lengshui rice this year will reach 4 million kilograms.
