Chenzhou becomes national manufacturing service-oriented logistics hub

2024-10-30

Recently, a list of newly-approved national-level logistics hubs was released. Chenzhou City made the list as a manufacturing service-oriented logistics hub. It means that the logistics hub layout structure of Chenzhou is improved, which will provide more convenient and efficient logistics services for industrial development and promote the rapid development of the hub economy.

In the main functional area of the national manufacturing service-oriented logistics hub in Chenzhou, a rail-sea intermodal train carrying building materials and furniture has successfully completed customs declaration, manifest verification, and checkpoint inspection procedures. These products will depart for Shenzhen and be sent to European and American countries.

Through the construction of the logistics hub, Chenzhou has significantly improved its efficiency in transporting goods.

Previously, customs clearance of goods required multiple and cumbersome inspection and approval processes, which was quite time and energy consuming. Today, relying on the strong transportation capacity and competitive freight rate of trunk highways, as well as the branch transportation network covering a range of 150 kilometers, the customs clearance process has been greatly simplified, and the transportation time from Chenzhou Land Port to coastal ports is less than one day. This greatly improves logistics efficiency and reduces the management and operation costs of enterprises.

Cao Shijie, an executive of Chenzhou International Land Port Development Co., Ltd. said, “We are now delivering the furniture from Chenzhou Land Port to Barcelona Port in Spain. The original road transportation cost was 5,800 yuan per container, but now it has been reduced to 4,200 yuan per container, saving 1,600 yuan in logistics costs per container.”

As an important node city of the “the Belt and Road” Initiative, Chenzhou connects the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, with a developed three-dimensional transportation network.

It has connected with the 1-hour economic circle of the Pearl River Delta and Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomerations, becoming an important channel for the southward import and export of goods in inland areas.

Chenzhou has planned a land area of 10.39 square kilometers, with Xiangnan International Logistics Park as the main functional area and Chenzhou Free Trade Port  Area as the supplementary functional area, and built functional facilities such as port operation area and manufacturing logistics multimodal transport.

According to statistics, the total freight volume of Chenzhou city reached 300 million tons in 2023, with a hub cargo throughput of 38.54 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 20%. The export clearance efficiency has been increased by 40% and 30% respectively, and the overall logistics cost has been reduced by 30%.

The main categories of goods in circulation include building materials, coal, steel, agricultural and sideline products, fruits, mineral products, photovoltaic glass. The total import and export volume reached 44.43 billion yuan, ranking among the top 100 foreign trade cities in China.

“Next, the city will combine the needs of the country and the province, accelerate the construction of hub projects, expand the modern logistics network with internal and external connectivity, build a comprehensive logistics hub platform of ‘industrial chain plus supply chain’, cultivate and strengthen production service-oriented industrial clusters with a focus on nonferrous metal new materials and lithium battery new energy, and create a new highland of southbound logistics hub in Central China,” said Zhu Yanghui, secretary of the Party group of the development and reform commission of Chenzhou city.
