Guidong County has introduced and developed 22 leading enterprises, professional cooperative organizations, and large growers of Lengshui rice such as Guidong County Longping High- tech Grain Planting Professional Cooperative, Hunan Fuyang Tianyuan Ecological Agriculture Development Co., Ltd., Guidong County Rongjin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. to promote the cultivation of Lengshui rice.

 

There are 3 demonstration bases of over 500 mu (about 33.33 hectares), 8 demonstration bases of over 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares), and 5 professional demonstration villages for Lengshui rice planting in the county. 

 

 

Guidong County has been working to build the regional public brand Guidong Lengshui Rice. 7 categories of rice have been certified as green food and included in the authorized products of “Xiang Gan Hong”.

 

According to an official of the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Guidong County, the county has established a relatively mature field engineering construction, production and operation management, and industrial development support system. It has promoted biopesticides, standardized the use of low-toxicity and high-efficiency pesticides, and eliminated the use of prohibited pesticides.

 

Compared with ordinary rice cultivation, the use of elemental fertilizer is reduced by more than 30% per unit area, and the use of organic fertilizer and green manure is increased by more than 20% in planting Guidong Lengshui rice.

 

Xinfang Township has assigned technicians from the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Guidong County to conduct field investigations based on ecological climate, geographical environment, and other conditions such as temperature, humidity, sunshine, and altitude in the township. Besides, the Guiyang Xinhuili Rice Planting Professional Cooperative has been introduced to carry out tobacco-rice rotation to improve the efficiency of farmland.

 

 

Chen Jingfang, head of Guiyang Xinhuili Rice Planting Professional Cooperative, said that the company has carried out tobacco-rice rotation in more than 100 mu (about 6.67 hectares) of cultivated land in Xinfang Township, Guidong County through land transfer. QX103 and QX105 cigar varieties are planted from April to July and high-quality rice is planted from July to November.

 

According to calculations, the tobacco-rice rotation in Xinfang Township can bring economic benefits of over 1.3 million yuan per year, provide more than 5,000 employment opportunities for local villagers, and increase per capita income by over 1,000 yuan.

 

Deng Hong, Party secretary of Xinfang Township, said that the township will continue to optimize the business environment, increase efforts to attract investment, enhance the awareness of serving enterprises and the people, and strengthen the characteristic agricultural industry, in a bid to increase income of agricultural enterprises and the people.

 

“Guidong County will make efforts to advance the construction of high-standard farmland, select varieties based on the actual situation, strengthen the technical guidance by dispatching more agricultural technicians, and promote agricultural machinery in the countryside,” said an official from the Agriculture and Rural Bureau of Guidong County.

 

Guo Erkun, head of Longping High-tech Grain Planting Professional Cooperative in Guidong County, said that the cooperative has transferred nearly 1,000 mu (about 66.67 hectares) of arable land in Quanxi Village of Datang Town and Pule Village of Pule Town. Through measures such as solar insecticidal lamps, green prevention and control, and mechanical tillage, it’s expected to reach 550 kilograms per mu (about 0.067 hectares) this year, increasing by 10% year on year. 

 

 

At the 500-mu (about 33.33 hectares) Lengshui rice planting base in Wuhua Village, Dongluo Township, two agricultural machines produced by World Group were operated to harvest and thresh rice grains.

 

“Despite the long growth cycle and relatively lower yield of Lengshui rice, its benefits are still considerable as long as we implement large-scale planting, precise seed selection, and fine management,” said Zhu Hongbo, technical director of Guidong County Rongjin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd.

 

Zhu Hongbo said that after the rice is harvested, rapeseed will be planted immediately to improve land utilization, turning it into a sea of flowers next spring.
