Rapeseed farming machines were used to plant rapeseed at the demonstration farmland of rapeseed in Liangtian village of Liangtian town, Suxian District on November 12.
In recent years, the district has worked to develop rice-rapeseed rotation, and carried out mechanized sowing of rapeseed, making winter fields no longer idle.
This year, new agricultural machines integrating plowing, sowing, and fertilizing have been adopted here, which not only significantly improves sowing efficiency, but also greatly reduces costs.
“Compared with traditional methods, this machine shortens the time by 90%, and each one can complete the sowing tasks of 30 mu (2 hectares) to 40 mu (2.67 hectares) per day, saving about 150 yuan per mu (0.067 hectares) in costs,” said an agronomist in the planting industry of the local department of agriculture and rural areas of Suxian District.
Grower Wu Xiaojing contracted over 3,000 mu (200 hectares) of land this year, of which more than 1,600 mu (106.67 hectares) are used for planting rapeseed after harvesting late rice.
Thanks to the fully mechanized sowing method, his rapeseed planting efficiency has been greatly improved. It’s expected to be harvested in late April next year.
Wu Xiaojing said that in the past, manual fertilization was time-consuming and laborious, and it always led to uneven fertilizer use. Now with these new machines and technologies, they are no longer worried about that, and it’s expected that production will increase by 10% compared to last year.
Suxian District has comprehensively promoted new machines, new technologies and new varieties, vigorously promoted the rice-rapeseed rotation mode, and fully implemented the full mechanization service of winter rapeseed planting.
This year, the district plans to plant 56,000 mu (3,733.33 hectares) of rapeseed through methods such as setting up demonstration sites, scientific planting and free seed distribution.
“In the future, we will continue to provide more technical support and professional guidance for farmers on rice, rapeseed, fruits and vegetables through pilot demonstration sites, helping them increase production and income,” said Cao Jun.
