To promote the growth of passion fruit, ultraviolet fill lights have been installed in the greenhouse. This supplementary lighting can accurately enhance photosynthesis to accelerate fruit growth and improve economic benefits. 

 

“More than 10,000 lights were installed in September this year, and the passion fruit is sweeter and bigger, with bright colors for that. Any plant needs photosynthesis, but the light in winter is weak, so supplementary lighting will help passion fruit grow well, while the passion fruit grown in the open can’t.” Zhu Xiaojian, chairman of the company. 

 

 

Last year, Zhu Xiaojian led a research team to cooperate with universities and successfully cultivated high-altitude passion fruit on Wugai Mountain at an altitude of 800 meters. This tropical fruit had a bountiful harvest in the year of trial planting.

 

This year, the planting scale of passion fruit has expanded to 300 mu (20 hectares), and will be planted in two batches. Supplementary lighting will be applied in the second batch to ensure fruit quality.

 

 

At present, the daily production of the base is about 2,500 kg. One truck loaded with fruit departs every two days to Shenzhen and other places. 

 

In recent years, Wugaishan Town has actively adjusted its agricultural industry structure, vigorously supported characteristic breeding and animal husbandry, and built a diversified industrial pattern, injecting strong impetus into rural revitalization. The passion fruit industry has become a characteristic project for local villagers to increase income.

 

 

“Next, Wugaishan Town will continue to support villagers in developing planting and breeding industries, seek for funds and investment projects, introduce external capitals to activate local resources. We will fully leverage the geographical advantages of high mountains, promote the integration of leisure and wellness industries with agriculture, and create a distinctive brand of agriculture, culture, and tourism integration,” said Hu Ting, deputy town mayor.
