Li Zhuobiao worked in the provincial capital after graduation, with decent remuneration. In 2023, he returned to his hometown and was elected as Party secretary of the village by a large margin.

 

“I will leverage the advantages of my major in agriculture to help villagers to increase income,” he said.

“Only by expanding the area and establishing a good brand can we continue to promote industrial development,” he said.

 

Through multiple investigations, Li Zhuobiao proposed the business model of the “leading enterprise plus family farm plus large-scale planting”, and called on farmers to transfer idle land for planting selenium-rich products.

 

280 mu (about 18.67 hectares) of land were transferred in the village to plant selenium-rich rice. The Baidan Hetian Family Farm has been established in Jiahe County.

 

It has created the “Baidan Hetian” selenium-rich rice brand with Jiahe County Jiahe Rice Industry Co., Ltd., a provincial leading enterprise. At the same time, a selenium-rich rice demonstration base and an early rice-late rice-mushroom rotation planting base have also been established. In 2024, the village collective income reached 272,000 yuan.

 

“Now my family can achieve an annual income of 50,000 yuan,” said a villager. 

 

In addition, over 1,500 meters of channels have been renovated, over 2,000 meters of flood control channels have been built, over 8,000 square meters of dangerous and old houses have been demolished, and over 300 meters of damaged roads to the village have been repaired through Li Zhuobiao’s efforts to seek fund from higher authorities. In particular, the village hall and other supporting facilities have greatly improved the living environment of villagers.

 

Under the leadership of Li Zhuobiao, Shantan Village has achieved excellence in economic development, living environment, and practical matters related to people’s livelihood. It's a model village for respecting teachers and valuing education in Jiahe County and the non-toxic village in Jiahe County. It won the honor of “Clean Village” in the 2024 rural landscape improvement and second quarter living environment evaluation of Tanping Town.

 

“We will continue efforts to develop selenium-rich rice, selenium-rich watermelon, cantaloupe and other fruit industries, as well as selenium-rich tea oil, selenium-rich corn and other characteristic planting industries to help villagers to boost income,” said Li Zhuobiao, who is full of confidence in the future development of the village.
