Spring Festival shopping fair kicks off at Aoshang village

The 8th Spring Festival shopping Fair was held from January 17 in the Aoshang Ancient Village of Suxian District, Chenzhou City. It will continue till January 19.

It’s a traditional folk activity in Aoshang Ancient Village. It originated in the early Tang Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,300 years. It aims to promote and inherit this traditional culture, showcase the achievements of rural revitalization, promote local economic development, and enhance the popularity of integrated agriculture, culture and tourism in Suxian District.

The Chenzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Area showcases local traditional folk culture through display boards, physical displays, and on-site demonstrations. Tourists can write Spring Festival couplets, cut paper, and enjoy embroidery, sugar painting, and other folk arts on the site.

There are local traditional snacks at the traditional food street. 
 
Food is cooked on the site to keep it fresh and hot in the traditional cooking skills exhibition area. A food selection activity is also held, where tourists can vote for the most popular food stalls.

The parent-child DIY area is full of fun. Tourists can cut paper and experience traditional games like quoits and pitch-pot.

At the New Year’s shopping area, local farmers, handicraftsmen, and merchants provide a diverse range of New Year’s goods, with good quality and reasonable prices.
 
Featured agricultural products, traditional handicrafts, dried nuts, Spring Festival couplets and New Year paintings are all available.

In addition, tourists can also visit ancient buildings and experience the profound history and culture of Aoshang Ancient Village.

Well-preserved ancient buildings in the village showcase the architectural style of southern Hunan during the Qing Dynasty. They are major specimens for studying the rural architectural culture of the Ming and Qing dynasties and one of the best preserved ancient architectural complexes in Chenzhou.

Aoshang Ancient Village was listed as a cultural relic unit under provincial-level protection in 2011, rated as “the most beautiful ancient village in Hunan” in 2015, and included among the fourth batch of traditional villages in China in 2016.
