Holly root is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb mainly produced in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi and other regions. It can clear heat and detoxify, which is commonly used to treat diseases such as influenza, high fever, acute tonsillitis, and pharyngitis. It is the main ingredient of Sanjiu Ganmaoling Granules. 

 

 

 

Hunan Douxin Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. was established in Beihu District of Chenzhou City in 2023. Based on the soil environment and geographical location of the Shigaitang area, the company signed a contract with a pharmaceutical company for the cultivation of holly root, with a plan to plant 30,000 mu (2,000 hectares) of holly root within five years. It raised seedlings for 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares) of land in the first year.

 

In the past, holly root was mainly dug in the wild, with small volume and high labor costs. Nowadays, enterprises with high demand plant it in a large scale, which effectively guarantees the yield and processing purity of holly root.

 

 

Holly root is sown from August to December each year and the seedlings are transplanted in April of the following year. 5 to 6 tons of fresh holly root can be produced from each mu (about 0.067 hectares), which will be purchased at a guaranteed price of 5,000 yuan per ton after drying. 

 

Hunan Douxin Agricultural Development Company hires villagers to transplant seedlings and promotes the holly root industry in the village. At present, many villagers have shown strong interest in planting holly root and hope to plant it to increase income under the guidance of the company.
