This year’s Lantern Festival fell on February 12, when all parts of Chenzhou City was decorated with lanterns and held colorful activities like guessing lantern riddles, admiring flower lanterns and traditional opera lanterns to celebrate this festival.
Yuhouli in Beihu District
Shuiyuan Isle and Yuhouli in Beihu District jointly launched a lantern riddle party on the evening of February 12.
The lantern riddles generated by DeepSeek combine the beauty of classical poetry with the fun of AI creativity. There are even Chenzhou-themed puzzles, covering urban landmarks like Dongjiang Lake, Mangshan Mountain and Danxia landform.
Participants had the opportunity to get free tickets of scenic spots and food coupons.
Suxian District
Lantern festival celebrations were held in Chenxian Square of Suxian District. Citizens and tourists gathered together to guess lantern riddles and play folk games.
There was also a food and cultural creative market, with some interactive games. After all games were finished, they would get New Year’s blessing bags and handmade materials for New Year lanterns.
On the evening of the 15th day of the first lunar month, Chenzhou Changjuan Historical and Cultural Block launched a series of activities such as cultural programs, fish lantern parade and fireworks show. With intangible cultural heritage and traditional customs as the core, a highly interactive and interesting cultural feast was created.
Guiyang County
The 2025 Guiyang Lantern Festival Party was launched in the cultural park of Guiyang county. The event combined cultural performances of intangible cultural heritage and folk activities, creating a strong festival atmosphere for citizens.
Apart from the literary and artistic performances, more than 20 folk customs activities like lion dance, dragon dance and paper cuttings were launched. The intangible cultural heritage performances, national style fairs and other innovative forms attracted many young people, which helped promote the deep integration of culture and tourism.
Jiahe County
Jiahe county held a national style lantern festival and a mass cultural activity. Such intangible cultural heritage projects as Jiahe Immortal Lion, Jiahe Dragon Dance and Jiahe Wedding Songs were staged, drawing cheers from the audience.
Yizhang County
Yizhang Night Stories, a national intangible cultural heritage project, was performed in Mangshan National Forest Park. Yizhang Night Stories, with a history of over 700 years, is usually performed from the first day of the first lunar month to the fifth day of the first lunar month.
There are a total of 12 story programs in this performance, including stories that showcase the cultural customs of the New Year, as well as those showcase the historical culture and red stories of Yizhang.
The performance attracted citizens and tourists to participate, with actors touring and interacting with tourists. Tourists used their phones and cameras to record exciting moments.
Changqi Village, Changcun Township, Yizhang County also held a cultural performance this day, with songs, dances, sketches, and Qi Opera presented to the villagers.
Linwu County
Linwu County held a series of activities to celebrate the Lantern Festival in the New Era Cultural Plaza of the Micro Film City. At the event, 1,030 lantern riddles were hung high, attracting many citizens to participate. In addition to guessing lantern riddles, there were also rich performances and intangible cultural heritage exhibitions.
Anren County
The 12th Lantern Festival Rice Dough Competition was held in Anren County. More than 100 contestants from the whole county participated in this contest, and more than 100 people experienced making rice dough on the site.
The rice dough competition is divided into adult, children’s and experience groups. Contestants made rice dough with different shapes.
Rice dough is a unique symbol of local culture in Anren county. In 2012, it was listed as one of the third batch of provincial-level intangible cultural heritage in Hunan province.
Yongxing County
Yongxing County carried out activities to celebrate the Lantern Festival. The celebration started with the lively lion dance and martial arts performances, which instantly ignited the enthusiasm of present visitors, showcasing the unique charm of the traditional Chinese culture.
Citizens could participate in an award-winning quiz, and experience intangible cultural heritage projects such as Dabujiang patchwork embroidery, window cutting and sugar figurine making.
Rucheng County
Rucheng Burning Incense Dragon Dance, a national intangible cultural heritage project, was staged in Hantian village of Wenming Yao Township of Rucheng County on the evening of February 12, attracting many villagers and tourists.
The main dragon is 33 meters long and the subsidiary dragon is 33 meters long. This activity brought a visual feast to villagers and and promoted the inheritance and development of the intangible cultural heritage.
Zixing City
On February 12, Zixing City held an activity to celebrate the Spring Festival. A variety of intangible cultural heritage activities including cuju, touhu, and lantern riddles guessing were launched, attracting many citizens.
In addition, citizens were organized to make tangyuan and perform dragon lion waist drum. Children also participated in the dragon dance team to feel the joy of folk culture.
Guidong County
On February 12, a Lantern Festival themed activity was held in Luoxiao Square of Guidong County. With colored lanterns, 500 riddles covering humanity, history, geography and daily life were neatly hung under the lanterns, attracting many people to participate.
