After the Spring Festival holiday, the demand for vegetables has significantly increased. In the vegetable base of Shitoushan village of Beihu district, workers were busy harvesting leaf vegetables like celery, crown daisy and flowering Chinese cabbage. The frosted fresh vegetables, which have a sweeter taste, are selling well in the market.

The celery market was particularly good last year. With 130 mu (8.67 hectares) planted, 2,000 kilograms of celery were steadily delivered to the market every day, making it the largest celery planting base in the city.
Last year, the base also obtained more than 2 million yuan in subsidy funds through the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao vegetable industry cluster project in Beihu District, and continued to build high-standard vegetable greenhouses, promoting the vegetable industry towards high-end, intelligent, and green development.
In recent years, the vegetable industry in Beihu district has seen a good development trend, with a vegetable planting area of 168,800 mu (11,253.33 hectares), a total output of 319,000 tons and a total output value of 920 million yuan.
The output value of the whole industrial chain of characteristic agriculture has exceeded 9 billion yuan.
Through deep integration of agricultural production and rural economy, it helped increase income for surrounding farmers.
This year, the district will leverage the construction of the vegetable industry cluster project supplied by southern Hunan to further expand the scale of facility agriculture for enhanced ability of vegetable deep processing, and explore the new model of “Internet plus agriculture” and expand the sales network through e-commerce platforms to constantly increase the market share.
