In recent years, more and more talented individuals have returned to their hometowns to start businesses, injecting a continuous stream of vitality into rural revitalization. Guo Lihong, a native of Qingshan Township in Guidong County, also dreams to become a new farmer in poultry farming.

She was busy feeding water to 1,500 small chicks at the Guidong Wenhao Ecological Breeding Base on February 18.
“At present, there are nearly 3,000 chickens in our ecological farm, with a daily production of over 1,000 eggs and a monthly output of 3,000 baby chicks. It is expected that the monthly output of baby chicks will reach 5,000 at the end of the year,” she said.
In 2008, after graduation, Guo Lihong started to work in Guangdong Province.
She experienced the hardships of entrepreneurship and the bustling life in big cities, and suffered from the pressure of work and life.
However, she has also accumulated a lot of experience. She said that she always dreamed of starting a career in big cities and never thought that she would return to her hometown to devote herself to agriculture.
In the winter of 2020, she returned home with her family to visit relatives and enjoyed the natural scenery of her hometown. It struck her that the urgent demand of urban people for green and healthy agricultural products was a business opportunity.
“Although I have never engaged in agriculture before, I know it does require a lot of efforts.” She recalled her worries at the beginning of her entrepreneurship.
The ecological charm of her hometown and the support from her family brought her final decision to return and start her own business in 2021.
At first, she visited Qingshan Township, Pule Town, Oujiang Town, and other places for inspections. With the support and assistance of the government, she built an ecological breeding farm with a total area of 200 mu (about 13.33 hectares) through land transfer to raise chickens, ostriches, ducks, geese, and other animals.
“The native chickens here enjoy high concentrations of negative oxygen ions, drink clear mountain spring water, and peck at fresh grass. The chicken has a scent of fresh grass and eggs also taste sweeter,” she said.
She has adhered to the innovation-led development concept, and promoted employment through entrepreneurship, which helped increase income of farmers.
“I have been working on the farm for 3 years. I can take care of my family and earn income,” said a worker on the farm.
In 2024, Guo Lihong leased another 50 mu (about 3.33 hectares) of barren mountains to expand the scale of breeding.
“The chickens we raise are strictly managed and produced according to the original ecological organic standards throughout the entire growth cycle, without any chemical feed and growth hormones, and so they can fully withstand the strict inspection of authoritative institutions,” she said.
Thanks to the excellent quality, her products have been favored by consumers in Dongguan, Shenzhen and other places.
“In the second half of 2024, more than 3,000 native chickens, over 100 ducks, and more than 100,000 eggs were sold, with an annual income of nearly 200,000 yuan,” she said. She believed that the future will definitely get better and better.
“I plan to form a team for live streaming sales, so that urban residents can easily purchase high-quality agricultural and sideline products from Guidong, such as ecological chickens, eggs, ducks, geese, yellow peaches, as well as ostriches and ostrich eggs that may be launched in the future,” she said.
