According to Chenzhou’s municipal rural work conference held on February 20, in 2024, Rucheng county planted 130,000 mu (8,666.67 hectares) of chili peppers, with a yield of 268,000 tons, a planting output value of 1.3 billion yuan, and a processing output value of 3 billion yuan. The county has successfully applied for the national agricultural industrial cluster project for chili pepper.
“The purchase price of pod pepper is 7 to 9 yuan per kilogram, which is higher than that in previous years, but there is no need to worry about the sales, and the maximum daily sales can reach over 1000 kilograms!” At the pepper planting base in Shuikou Village, Tuqiao Town, Rucheng county, workers were picking peppers early in the morning on February 20.
Chili peppers are harvested during the day and delivered at night. Chili peppers from Rucheng are popular at the farmers’ markets in Foshan of Guangdong, Shenzhen and other cities.
The county government has made efforts to develop the chili pepper planting industry through land transfer, base construction and other ways.
There are four 1,000-mu (66.67 hectares) standardized production bases for chili peppers in the whole county. And a chili pepper industrial layout has been formed, with over one 200-mu (13.33 hectares) chili pepper production demonstration area in each township, more than one 20-mu (1.33 hectares) chili pepper production demonstration base in each village, and two 100,000-mu (6,666.67 hectares) chili pepper industry belts along national and provincial highways.
Rucheng chili peppers. Our company’s annual production capacity for chili products reaches 500,000 tons. It is very popular in the national market,” said He Biqing, the project planning manager of Rucheng County Fanhua Food Co., Ltd., which is a national agricultural leading enterprise. As Rucheng is close to coastal areas such as Guangdong, its fresh chili peppers are very popular there.
The chili industry has great growth potential in the future.
As a national agricultural green development pilot zone, the county has developed 69 certified green foods and established 15 “vegetable basket” production bases for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area.
Such characteristic industries as chili peppers, ginger, fruits, and white tea are thriving.
Various activities such as harvest festivals, chili festivals, tea culture festivals and annual goods fairs are also be held across the county to promote the sales of agricultural products and enrich the people.
