Baijiadong village sees bumper harvest of vegetables

2025-02-25

“Because rice cannot be grown in the fields destroyed by flood in two years, we decide to cultivate vegetables instead,” said Li Nan’gui, head of a professional planting and breeding cooperative in the Butian Revolutionary Old Area of Zixing City.

Rapeseed flowers in the 100-mu (6.67 hectares) field are swaying in the wind, and vegetable farmers are busy harvesting vegetables in the contiguous leaf mustard experimental field.

In recent days, villagers have been busy harvesting fresh vegetables at the vegetable base in Baijiadong village to supply markets and purchasers.

Baijiadong Village allows some growers to plant vegetables in the restored fields, while rapeseed is planted on the remaining farmland to improve soil fertility.

At present, the cooperative has signed long-term procurement agreements with merchants from Guangdong. The base employs more than 10 people per day, with a daily wage of 100 yuan during peak harvesting periods.

“The yield per mu (0.067 hectares) is about 4,000 kilograms, with a net profit of about 2,000 yuan per mu (0.067 hectares). This year, we tried planting about 30 mu (2 hectares) of Chinese mustard, and we will expand our planting scale in winter.” Li Nan'gui is full of expectations for future development.
