Laying hens enjoy Smart life

2025-03-14

During this year’s “Two Sessions”, “new quality productivity of agriculture” had been the focus of discussion for the deputies to the National People's Congress (NPC), while how to use modern information technology, big data and other technological means to promote the modernization of agriculture has become the focus of attention for everyone.

At Chenzhou Xurui Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Company in Huatang town of Beihu district, Chenzhou city, 400,000 laying hens have moved into the “smart apartment”, in which precise feeding and real-time monitoring of chicken health can be done through an automated control platform.

At around ten o’clock in the morning every day, workers pour corn, bean pulp and other feeds into the storage bin, and then start the batching equipment. The feed can be scientifically proportioned and finely processed before being accurately transported to various chicken coops through pipelines.

This way not only achieves precise management of the breeding process, but also ensures full traceability throughout the whole process.

“Through the fully automated equipment, we can provide chickens with feeding, drinking water, and fecal removal automatically, to control the growth environment of chickens. After obtaining conclusion data, we can analyze the health status of chickens, better identify and solve problems,” said Zheng Lan, sales director of the company.

In the smart apartment for laying hens, the four-story chicken coop under the lights is clean and bright, where feeding, temperature control and manure cleaning are all controlled by automated breeding equipment.

Eggs are directly transported to the sorting area through an automated conveyor system, where workers weed out dirty and broken eggs, and then package and sell them by category.

The whole process minimizes direct contact between humans and laying hens, effectively preventing the spread of bacteria and ensuring that each laying hen can produce one egg every day.

The company now has five “smart apartments” for laying hens, with an annual output of 8,640 tons of eggs. Its products are mainly sold to Hunan, Guangdong and other places, with an annual output value of 75 million yuan. The new intelligent chicken coops are in preparation. It’s expected to further improve the scientific and standardized level of laying hen farming in the second half of the year.

Zheng Lan added that in the second phase, they plan to breed 700,000 laying hens, add an automatic egg sorting system with precise data analysis to improve egg picking efficiency, classify and package different types of eggs, so as to improve product quality and achieve better integration of production and sales.
