Baizhu Village in Zhaiqian Town of Guidong County has taken multiple measure to develop the alpine vegetable industry in abandoned nurseries to prevent non-agricultural use of arable land and ensure food security.

Recently, more than ten villagers were busy fertilizing, transplanting, and cultivating seedlings in the fields along the 106 National Highway in Baizhu Village.
This newly reclaimed land was originally used to plant seedlings, with an area of 30 mu (2 hectares). In recent years, due to the poor market, seedlings have seen a significant decline in economic benefits. Baizhu Village has vacated 300 mu (20 hectares) of nurseries and transferred it to large growers at appropriate prices to plant crops such as rice and vegetables.
This has solved the planting problem after the restoration of arable land and guided the industrial development to help villagers increase their income.
“As of now, large growers have transferred 30 mu (2 hectares) of land to plant alpine vegetables, allowing villagers to receive land rent and find employment at their doorstep,” said Wang Yaohua, Party secretary of Baizhu Village.
