2025-03-22

Recently, Datang Town of Guidong County was a hive of activity. Some farmers were busy picking spring tea leaves in the tea garden of Chunfeng Village, and some were engaged in plowing fields and raising seedlings at the Quanxin Fruit and Vegetable Base. Besides, workers were occupied with confirming the operating area at the site of the Lengshui Rice Specialty Industry Project in Chuantang Village.

Datang Town has made efforts to develop characteristic ecological agriculture according to local conditions and formed four major industrial systems, including tea, Lengshui rice, vegetables, and oil tea, which have promoted the transformation and upgrading of the agricultural industry and helped local farmers boost income.

“This year, Chunfeng Village will continue to develop the tea industry to increase villagers’ income. It will promote the scale and quality of the tea industry by expanding bases, optimizing varieties, and improving technology,” said Zhu Jiquan, Party secretary of the village.

The village has introduced quality tea tree varieties and raised more than 70,000 new tea seedlings to enhance the competitiveness in the tea market.

“Our tea plantation covers more than 20 mu (about 1.33 hectares), and last year we earned over 50,000 yuan from tea,” said a tea farmer.

Datang Town has regularly organized technical training events to help farmers master advanced planting and processing techniques, so as to improve tea quality.

Lengshui rice is highly favored by consumers due to its unique growth environment and taste. The alpine Lengshui rice characteristic industry project assisted by China Railway Group has transferred more than 1,000 mu (about 66.67 hectares) of land in Quanxi Village, Jiaolong Village, and Chuantang Village, introduced new smart agriculture technologies, and strengthened the construction of agricultural facilities, which plans to create a modern agricultural industry base integrating planting, processing, and sales.

With the advancement of the project, Datang Town has further optimized the agricultural industry structure.

“The project is of great significance for developing the agricultural industry, consolidating the position of agriculture as the foundation of the economy, ensuring national food security, strengthening the construction of beautiful rural areas, and promoting ecological civilization. It can enhance the agricultural brand influence of Datang Town and provide more employment opportunities for surrounding villagers to drive regional economic development,” said Ao Dong, head of the project.

After the completion of the project, it’s expected to produce more than 600 tons of high-quality Lengshui rice per year, increase the total agricultural output value by about 3.25 million yuan per year, and drive more than 200 households in the surrounding areas to increase their annual income by more than 10,000 yuan.

In addition, the vegetable and oil tea industries in Datang Town are also thriving. The Quanxin Fruit and Vegetable Base has achieved large-scale and standardized production of vegetables through transformation and upgrading. Its products are very popular. The oil tea industry has driven villagers to boost income through the model that combines cooperatives with farmers. At present, the town has 5,000 mu (about 333.33 hectares) of oil tea trees, with an annual output value of 10 million yuan.

“We will continue to develop characteristic industries and promote the modernization of agriculture. We will further enhance the brand influence and market competitiveness of agricultural products in Datang Town through policy support and technical support, so that more farmers can enjoy the benefits of industrial development,” said Zhu Yongping, Party secretary of Datang Town.
