Volunteers pick Mingqian tea leaves in Qingquan town

The Mingqian tea picking competition was held by Guidong County Spark Volunteer Association at the 100,000-mu (about 6,666.7 hectares) tea sightseeing park in Qingquan Town of Guidong County on March 25.

30 volunteers participated in this competition. They were required to pick tea leaves with two hands according to the standard of “one top bud and two leaves”. After 2-hour competition, the winners were awarded such daily necessities as oil, rice, and noodles.

Deng Renxiang, president of Guidong County Spark Volunteer Association, said that this competition aims to inherit and promote tea culture, and enhance the team spirit and sense of participation of volunteers. Through such an activity, they can better understand the process of picking and making tea, and feel the joy and sense of achievement of labor. It’s hoped that in the future, more people can participate in such meaningful activities to promote the development of tea culture.
