Workers from Xinhua Bookstore were busy supplementing books and guiding the staff to register, classify, code, and put on shelves the new books in the rural library of Yuping Village, Wushui Town, Linwu County.

 

Duan Wenting, deputy manager of Xinhua Bookstore in Linwu County, said that this year, there are 200 rural libraries that need to add books in the county, with more than 40,000 books to be distributed, covering multiple categories such as science and technology, cultural education, medical and health life, and children’s books.

 

To ensure timely completion of delivery tasks, two delivery teams have been set up, with a total of 8 workers. As of now, over 180 rural libraries have been supplemented, and it’s expected to distribute all books within a week.

 

 

There are 1,000 books in the rural library of Yuping Village, involving various kinds such as practical rural technologies, children’s books, and policies and regulations. 

 

The library, managed by village officials, is open from 9am to 5pm every day. Every weekend, holiday and winter/summer vacation, numerous students borrow children’s science popularization books. The small rural library has become a learning place for left-behind children.

 

Li Fengjuan, who is in charge of the library, said that before 2021, there were few books in the library, but the number of books has been increasing year by year since the improvement in 2021, with more than 200 new books each year. Every weekend, a continuous stream of villagers come to read in the library. According to statistics, over 200 villagers  borrowed books from the library in 2024.

 

 

At the same time, the rural library in Lijia Village of Wushui Town has also become a great place for villagers to relax during their leisure time. In 2024, the rural library was moved to the first floor, further improving its efficiency. Luo Qingling is a large grain grower in the local area. In order to increase crop yields, she often looks up agricultural related books in the library, and even brings books to the fields. She often borrows books about agricultural technology and crop pest control, from which she can learn a lot of knowledge.

 

Duan Wenting said that there is a feedback form in each rural library. Villagers can write down what kind of books they want on the form, and then librarians will collect the information and report it.

 

 

Rural libraries have effectively solved the difficulty in buying and borrowing books in rural areas. Books on agricultural technology and children’s picture books are added to meet the reading needs of different groups through a book updating mechanism.

 

Next, Wushui Town will work to optimize the book structure, innovate activity forms, strengthen publicity and promotion, improve the management level, in a bid to build rural libraries into an important platform for villagers to learn knowledge, exchange ideas, and enrich cultural life,” sais Zeng Bin, deputy mayor of Wushui Town.

 

 

 

In recent years, Linwu County has vigorously promoted nationwide reading, increased efforts to build rural cultural facilities, advanced the upgrading and transformation of rural libraries, in a bid to make every book a good helper for the people to increase knowledge, strengthen skills, and improve literacy.
