The village, which Chenyong Avenue and Ziwu Highway pass through, is surrounded by the Dongjiang, Cuijiang, and Bianjiang rivers. It boasts unique Danxia landform. This formerly poverty-stricken village has been transformed into a beautiful, civilized, and well-governed one.

 

In recent years, the village has explored diversified industrial development paths based on its resource advantages, injecting strong impetus into villagers’ income increase. The characteristic breeding industry is one of the pillar industries in the village. There are over 4,000 mu (266.67 hectares) of water areas for cage culture, with more than 20,000 sturgeons raised. After 8 to 9 years of development, the caviar processing factory in the village has booming production and sales, increasing the village collective economy of 300,000 yuan and providing employment opportunities for villagers. 

 

“We used to work outside, but now we can earn 4,000 to 5,000 yuan per month at our doorstep,” said a villager.

 

The tourism industry has become a new engine for the development of the village. Ten years ago, the village jointly developed the Gaoyi Ridge Scenic Area with Suxian District through land investment. The Eagle Outdoor Base project, as a new form of rural tourism, has become a beautiful new brand for rural tourism in the city. It has developed more than 20 projects such as rock climbing, canyon exploration, and kayaking based on the Danxia landform. It’s not only a paradise for adventurers, but also a popular destination for family outings and team building. Since it opened in 2016, it has received over 3 million visitors. 

 

 

With the booming development of the tourism industry, the agritainment and homestay inn industries in the village have also sprung up. At present, there are more than 20 farmhouses and 10 homestay inns in the village, with over 350,000 tourists received in 2024. The villagers have earned substantial income by operating farmhouses, renting out houses, and other means. 

 

“The people in the village also want to upgrade the industries, improve the services and quality, so that tourists from the surrounding areas and those who come to Gaoyi Ridge can visit Dawangzhai Village for tourism and consumption,” said Cao Meihua, Party branch secretary and village committee director of Dawangzhai Village.

 

In order to further expand the employment channels for villagers, the village established the Qiangcun Company last year. Under a market-oriented operation model, the company helps more than 200 villagers find employment in Gaoyi Ridge Scenic Area, Ziwu Industrial Park, farmhouses and homestay inns in the village annually. 

 

“The young people who worked outside have all returned to the village. They can start businesses and work at their doorstep, take care of their children and families, as well as develop local industries. This also helps strengthen the collective economic income of the village, with an collective economic income of over 1 million yuan annually,” said Cao Meihua.

 

Meanwhile, the village attaches great importance to the improvement of living environment and the construction of rural civilization. The village has improved its appearance with more than 10 million yuan in financial funds and 110 million yuan self-raised by villagers. More than 40,000 square meters of dangerous old houses have been demolished and 186 neatly-arranged row houses have been built. Every household is equipped with running water, and sewage systems. Asphalt roads pass through the village. With increasingly beautiful environment, the village has become a popular tourist destination. 

 

“This year, we want to develop warehousing and logistics, and build charging stations, in the village to strengthen the collective economy,” said Cao Meihua.
