Recently, Hunan Shunxi Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., a modern processing enterprise of taro in Linwu County, was put into operation, marking that the taro full industry chain project integrating cultivation, planting, processing, research and development, and export is taking shape at an accelerated pace, which will inject new vitality into the agricultural development of the county.
The company, established in January this year, is an agricultural product processing enterprise integrating the existing social resources of the county.
“The company now focuses on the initial processing of taro, including taro slices and taro strips. It can process 20,000-ton taro per year. We have received many foreign trade orders, and our products will further expand into the international market, which are planned to be sold to Singapore, Vietnam and other places. This will greatly enhance the popularity of Linwu taro and contribute to the economic development of Linwu,” said Hu Weibo, general manager of the company.
As a primary agricultural product, taro has low added value, which restricts the development of taro industry in Linwu County to some extent. After initial processing, the value of taro has significantly increased, with an estimated price of 12,000 yuan per ton. In addition, the company can provide over 500 jobs.
The first phase of the company has been basically completed, and its second phase will be launched next year, with deep processed product types to be added, such as cooked and leisure food, and 1,000 mu (about 66.67 hectares) of taro planting demonstration base to be increased to help farmers fatten their wallets.
Hu Weibo said that relying on taro cultivation in Linwu, the company will focus on deep processing, open up online sales channels, and create a full industry chain enterprise integrating taro cultivation, planting, processing, research and development, and export.
