The Chenzhou Copper-based New Materials Industrial Park in the Chenzhou area of China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone is a hive of activity. It’s the largest copper processing and distribution center in the southern China. It achieved the output value of 5.266 billion yuan last year and is striving for the output value of 10 billion yuan this year.

 

Chenzhou is the “hometown of non-ferrous metals”. The Chenzhou area of China (Hunan) Pilot Free Trade Zone, based on the local non-ferrous metal industry foundation, strives to create an industrial system dominated by non-ferrous metal new materials such as copper, tungsten, and bismuth, rare and precious metals, and advanced battery materials.

 

Copper-based new materials, including hard alloys, high-strength wear-resistant materials, and conductive materials, are widely used in mechanical manufacturing, aerospace, automotive industry and other fields. In December 2023, Chenzhou High-tech Copper Industry Co., Ltd., a state-owned enterprise in Chenzhou High-tech Zone, took over the management and operation of Chenzhou Copper-based New Materials Industrial Park.

 

Since then, the park has made efforts to solve pain points and increase profitability. It has a fully automatic production line for continuous casting and rolling of 250,000 tons per year from MSM Group of Germany, which is also the first imported copper rod production line in Hunan. The copper rod production capacity has accounted for more than 20% of the Hunan market.

 

Faced with fierce market competition, small and medium-sized enterprises focusing on copper based new materials find it difficult to tap into large customer resources due to their small production capacity and weak bargaining power. The park has taken measures such as coordinated sales and commissioned processing to enhance the bargaining power of enterprises in the area. 

 

At the same time, based on the policy resources of the Chenzhou Area, Chenzhou High-tech Copper Industry Company has worked to promote the development of copper enterprises in the park through financial services such as supply chain and commercial factoring, to create a high-quality copper-based new materials industrial park.

 

“We are importing copper plates from Africa to meet production line requirements through the China-Africa trade channel. We will expand the copper based industry chain and improve product added value. As of now, we have received production orders for 160,000 tons, and we will stride toward the output value target of ten billion yuan this year,” said Qiu Bo, executive director of Chenzhou High-tech Copper Industry Co., Ltd.
