Established in 1996, Linwu Industrial Park was approved as a provincial industrial park in 2006.The Park is located in the south of Chenzhou of Hunan Province and closed to Guangdong, being the front edge of gradient transfer of industries chain in Pearl River Delta. The Linwu-Lianzhou secondary road passes through the Park, and the park also connects Lianzhou and Pearl River Delta as well as the double line of Beijing-Zhuhai expressway and Linwu-Guiyang secondary road, Linwu-Jiahe secondary road. Meanwhile, main roads such as Longwu Road, Shunfu Road, Dawu Road also link to the Park. All of these contribute to a convenient, well developed and highly effective transportation network.
The Park is just 1 km from the downtown of the county and has flat and open land. It covers a total planned area of 3.4 k㎡ (5,100 mu), of which 930 mu has been completed and over 4,000 mu reserved.
There are six planned zones for industries development: the food processing zone, the metal processing and manufacturing zone, the mineral products processing zone, knitting processing zone, logistics zone and the three types of business gathering zone.
At present, the park has 12 enterprises, of which seven are key ones: Shunhua Duck Industrial Development Co., Ltd., Youjun Bridal Veil Factory, Shunfengyuan Purple Yam Industry, Jinfu Potato Industry, Dachongshan Chilli Company, plasma station of Ziguang Group, and Xiangxiang Tin Industry Concentrate Deep Processing Plant.
Climate and ecology
Located in the southernmost part of Hunan province, Linwu is at the foot of the northern slope of the eastern Nan Ling. It is located from 25°N to 25°35′N and from 112°20′E to 112° 47′E. It has many hills, mountains, plains and streams. With its typical ecology of southern China, the county has picturesque and delightful scenery. As one of the counties with the longest history of the county establishment, it has a rich cultural and human heritage. With 5 towns and 17 villages under its jurisdiction, the county covers an area of 1392 square meters and has a population of 320,000. The average altitude of the county is 276 meters. Situated in middle and low latitudes, the climate here is mild with abundant rainfall, light and heat. The annual average temperature is 17.9°C; the annual rainfall is between 1022.3mm and 1917.4mm, and the average rainfall of the county is 1,421.8 mm.
Non-ferrous mineral resources
Linwu is known as the “home of non-ferrous metals”. There are nine types of mineral resources with 50 species whose reserves have been proved with 9 large ore deposits and 12 medium-sized ore deposits. Among them, there are 21 tungsten deposits (spots) with 58,215 tons of reserves, 27 tin deposits (spots) with 36,3210 ton of reserves, 48 lead and zinic deposits (spots) with the lead and zinic reserves of 38, 1062 tons and 51,9654 tons respectively, 1 tantalum and niobium deposit with 7,478 tons of reserves; lithium has the reserve of 9,834 tons with medium-sized deposits and rubidium has the reserve of 60,320 tons with large ore deposits.
In addition, Linwu is rich in special nonmetallic minerals such as optical fluorite, Iceland spar, and crystalline rock. In the 1930s, the geologist Li Siguang, together with geologists of former Soviet Union, made expedition in Xianghualing and found hsianghualite, which was a kind of crystal composed of rare elements. Because the hsianghualite is exclusive to Linwu and unique in the world, it enjoys a good reputation of “national treasure”.
Agricultural and Sideline Products
The planting areas of purple yam totals over 54,000 mu throughout the county with the annual output of 110, 000 tons. Known as “the king of vegetables”, the purple yam is very nutritious with good look, smell and taste. 5.15 grams of protein, 0.28 grams of fat, 12.71 grams of carbohydrate, 170 milligrams of calcium and 80 milligrams of phosphorous are contained in fresh purple yam per hundred grams, among which the content of protein is 2.1 times than that of yam. It has medicinal effects as follows: regulating vital energy, counteracting the effect of the poison, tonsifying spleen, clearing away heat and relieving cough.
Fruits with high quality in the county are dark plums, preserved dats, peaches with a red heart shape, modern new navel oranges, and Chinese royal pears.
The planting area of peach with a red heart shape totals over 5,000 mu with an output of 6,900 tons. The planting area of navel oranges is 284, 000 mu with the estimated annual output of 2,500 tons.
The planting area of dark plums reaches 4,700 mu with an output of 4,200 tons.
The planting area of Chines royal pears is over 8,000 mu with an output of over 8,100 tons.
The characteristics of dark plums, preserved dates, peaches with a red heart shape, modern new oranges and Chines royal pears are fresh, juicy, and sweet with high quality, being ripe and on the market from June to October in low seasons. The fruits are easy to plant and tended with high production, low cost and good productivity.
Coal Resources
Linwu is well-renown as the “home of coal”.
It has the coal reserves of 114 million tons with retained geological reserve of 76 million tons, and the annual output of raw coal is over 2 million tons. It is one of 200 key coal counties with a fuel value of 5,500 calories.
Unique calcium carbonate
Linwu is abundant in marble with total reserves of over 200 million tons. And if 1 million tons of marble are exploited each year, the longevity of the reserves is 200 years. The calcium quantity included in Linwu marble accounted for over 98%, and the white degree is over 95 degrees; the technical index has met the standard of the same kind of products in America and Japan and reached the level of the first-degree mineral. The work of utilizing the marble and vigorously developing heavy calcium carbide industry and superfine powder industry belongs to the category of national materials with high and new technology. The heavy calcium carbide, filled materials with inorganic salt and powder materials with high and new technology are widely applied to industrial products like plastics, rubber, building materials, papermaking, textiles, sealant, printing, printing ink, products for daily use, food, feedstuffs, medicine, and compound fertilizer. Meanwhile, the new areas of application of such materials are coming up, the market demand is increasing rapidly with a good market prospect.
Abundant labor resources
Linwu county boasts its abundant labor resources with comparatively high quality. The county has a population of 328,000, among which 120, 000 are labor forces. Every year, nearly 50,000 people go to the Pearl River Delta and Yangtse Delta to find jobs; and over 20,000 people go in for the exploitation, processing and smelting of mineral products all the year round, and thus there are a large number of skilled workers.
