The production capacity per mu is about 7500kgs

When reporters arrived at Shangzhang village, Wenming town, Rucheng county, the trial planting of off-season greenhouse watermelon was for harvest. As told by a fruit farmer, the production capacity per mu can be up to 7500kgs, accounting for 30,000yuan/mu on the basis of marketing price of 2yuan/half kilogram. If deducting the cost of 4500yuan, the net profit per mu is about 25,500yuan.

Harvest for the off-season greenhouse watermelon

In order to adjust the property industrial structure and promote the upgrading of industrialization of agriculture, the Party Committee and Government of Wenming town, Rucheng county placed much more attention on supporting the development of fruit industry, took active actions on investment attraction and obtaining upper level government’s policy support, and powerfully introduced new species into local market and encouraged the fruit farmers to improve the species. It followed the industrial development strategy of “providing the products others can’t provide and providing the best products”and followed the marketing concept of “good quality, good credit” to take more advantages on marketing. It also encouraged more young villagers to change the traditional concept and try to plant new species firstly. It was aimed to reach the target of fruit industry development as“products are available every ten days, new products are available every month, and seamless joint for the production of different kinds of fruit is available as well”.

In last November, followed the call and support of local Party Committee and Government, some fruit farmers of Shangzhang village took the best advantages of local resources to carry out the trial planting of over 20mu off-season greenhouse watermelons and now it is the harvest time for it. It was introduced that the picking season of the off-season greenhouse watermelon is from March to November, and the production capacity per mu can be up to 7500kgs. The production value can be amounted to 30,000yuan based on the marketing price of 2yuan/half kilogram. If deducting the cost of 4500yuan per mu, the profit per mu can be about 25,500yuan. Local villagers are greatly mobilized by this successful case and tried more efforts on promoting it, which greatly helped to increase their income.
