Luo Yuanbo, head of the company, was awarded the title of “Excellent Grain Grower” at Chenzhou’s municipal rural work conference held on February 20. After receiving the award, he went back to work in the fields again.

 

“Early rice seedling cultivation starts in mid-March. Previously, I had an 8,000-square-meter seedling cultivation greenhouse, and now another new greenhouse covering an area of 12,000 square meters is under construction. Apart from cultivating seedlings for our contracted rice fields, we also help surrounding farmers cultivate seedlings. Centralized seedling cultivation reduces pests and diseases, reduces labor intensity. It also receives government subsidies, and farmers need not spend money on it,” said Luo Yuanbo. 

 

The city government focuses on building centralized seedling cultivation facilities as a key project in agricultural rural work. Efforts will be increased to carry out early rice centralized seedling cultivation in traditional double cropping rice advantageous areas, build well-equipped and advanced production seedling cultivation bases and put them into use during the spring plowing period to improve the quality of seedlings. 

 

From 2023 to 2025, the city plans to construct 274 centralized seedling raising facilities with a total area of 1.4103 million square meters. Currently, 218 facilities with an area of 1.0254 million square meters have been built or are under construction. 

 

The construction tasks in Yizhang County, Yongxing County, Guidong County, and Anren County have been basically completed.

 

Compared with traditional seedling cultivation, centralized seedling cultivation has significant advantages.

 

“The centralized early rice seedling cultivation solves the problems of scattered seedling cultivation, multiple and disorderly varieties, extensive management, and inadequate implementation of strong seedling cultivation technology. It is a key technology for increasing rice production. Moreover, through industrial scale, mechanization, intensification and other means, the efficiency and quality of seedling cultivation have been improved, which solves the problem of labor shortage.” said Zhong Zaoxiong, head of the Planting Management Department of the Municipal Agriculture and Rural Bureau.

 

In recent years, the city government, which has paid close attention to the demand for socialized agricultural services, has continuously improved the level of specialized and socialized rice seedling raising services. The development of centralized rice seedling cultivation in the city has entered the fast lane as the city has vigorously promoted the construction of centralized seedling raising facilities through policy guidance, financial subsidies, and other means. 

 

More and more grain growers like Luo Yuanbo started implementing early rice centralized seedling cultivation, and they have become the backbone of promoting the development of centralized seedling cultivation.
