It was disclosed by Hong Kong Tourism Board on June 25, 2012 that in May this year, the number of tourists to Hong Kong reached over 3.63 million, and the number of mainland tourists came to over 2.52 million, both of which had a year-to-year increasing rate of 12.7% and 19.4% separately.
Among the mainland tourists, there were 1.64 million travelling by personal trip with the increase of 23%.
According to the data, people with the short term journey decreased by 0.5% but still hit 730,000 tourists. Among them, southern Asia, southeastern Asia and north Asia, and Taiwan tourists decreased by 0.4%, 2% and 7.5%.
But people with the long term journey increased by 0.7% and the tourists hit 370,000. Among them, American tourists increased by 2.6%, European, African, and Middle east tourists increases by 1.9%, while Australian, New Zealand and southern Pacific tourists decreased by 7.7%.
According to the data, tourists to Hong Kong reached more than 18.7 million with an increase rate of 14.8%.
