Grape Village

2012-08-30

Changchongpu village which locates along the bank of Chenjiang River is in the north of Chenzhou city.

It is surrounded by mountains with sands and formed by fluvial outwash. Besides, it is abundant in sunshine and high relative humidity. All of these conditions contribute to the high yield of grapes.

Because of the strong convective weather like heavy rain and hail occurring at the end of spring and the beginning of summer, the grape yields decreased by 100-200kgs/mu. There are more than 2000mu grape areas available in the village and can get grapes with 1700-1900kgs/mu, which was revealed by the woman director of Changchongpu village- Zhou Lilan who is also the grape planter.

Zhou and her husband were busy in packing the fresh grapes when the journalist arrived. Zhou told the journalist: “We get the call order for 10 cartons just now, and they will come to collect it later.” With the improvement of Changchongpu grape, it has become more famous in recent years. Now, more purchasers choose to order Changchongpu grape for its good quality and popularity.

Changchongpu grape deserves its reputation. It was selected as the representative fruit of Chenzhou city to attend 1998 and 1999 Hunan high-quality fruit evaluation activity for two consecutive years. It was awarded with gold medal with high marks for its weighty spike, big grain, even grain, bright skin, and high content of sugar and was accepted as the best grape in Hunan province. Now Changchongpu grape is well-known to the world and sold out to Guangzhou, Changsha, Nanchang and other places in China. Sometimes its demands even exceed the grape yield. Last year, 0.15 million kilo grams of grapes were sold out nationwide.

This good situation for the development of Changchongpu grape should be attributed to its villagers who strived to cultivate the mainstay industry. It was revealed by the secretary of village party committee that it is the 26th year since the village introduced the first 10 mu grape areas from Zhejiang province in 1986, which has been really a hard process to form today’s successful situation during the 26 years. Now each village is with their specified grape variety and the complete no-pollution cultivation management technology is completed by the planters. Changchongpu becomes a very famous grape village in Hunan province.
