More than 300 stay-behind women established an “all-year-round orchard”within 2 years in Anyuan village, Beihu district, Chenzhou city.

When the reporters arrived there, a fruitful picture first came into their eyes and warmly greeted them. Some villagers were busy in collecting the watermelon. Because of its high elevation, Anyuan village’s watermelon is a little late mature compared with that in other places. Now it is the harvest season for this water melon in Anyuan village so that many clients are being attracted there .

Huang Xiangle who is the director of women federation of the village happily told the reporters that they just sold out golden pears last month and now is busying in selling watermelons.

Thanks to the abundant mineral resources, most men of the village work in the minerals, while only the women were left behind, so that they have much more free time after finishing house holding issues. In order to enrich the women’s life, Huang Qiuxiang keeps thinking about developing some special projects.

Huang directly turned to Agricultural Bureau of Beihu district. With their instructions, it suddenly occurs to Huang that Anyuan village, with good environment condition, is suitable to grow golden pears. So, Huang started the golden pear peasant cooperation in February, 2010 together with more than 30 women of the village. They undertook 300mu desolate mountains and have them plant golden pears.

“It is amazing to see this improvement.” recommended by the village official- Xiao Guoping who had thought the women were doomed to failing in handling this kind of project in earlier days.

In order to take care of the pears well, Huang and other women lived in the mountain at the beginning. They created the Anyuan golden pear base at the end of 2011. Besides golden pears,they planted watermelons,corns,peanuts,and feed some animals as well.

Liu Xinghua- one of the partners of the cooperation also told the reporters gladly that it was really hard at the first beginning when all the women should work day and night to make sure the fruit trees can grow well and get good results. Now, it is the harvest season to make the dream come true.

No pain, no gain. Over 15,000kgs golden pears were collected from the base which was with about 0.1 million yuan income. Now the 300mu desolated mountain becomes the “four season fruit garden”.

Concerned for the future plan, Huang Qiuxiang said confidently: “we will keep expanding the base to undertake the thousands mu desolated mountain in following years, and then improve the base to be a tourism destination where tourists can enjoy travel, scenery and leisure.”
