Series report for Chenzhou city’s establishment of national civilized city II

Dante- the famous Italian poet said: “men cannot live like beasts; we should pursue knowledge and virtue.” It indicated that “knowledge and virtue are the foundation of social civilization.”Followed with the concept to upgrade people’s artistic appreciation, enrich people’s spiritual life and cultivate sound morality, Chenzhou city launched the work to establish national civilized city from 2009. People were edified with the civilization by the colorful activities held with different forms.

Upgrading the literacy with culture

“How do women relieve stress in work?” A theme forum named “shinny attitude, happy work”was held in Linyi Forum in the afternoon of this August 12 by Yang Xia who is the associate professor and senior psychologist of Chinese Peking Union Medical College. Ms. Yang- a civil servant said to the reporters after listening to the forum: “it was helpful for us to establish correct outlook of life and advocate the optimistic fashion from this forum.”

Culture helps to nourish the civilization. In order to express advanced culture and cultivate elegant interest, Chenzhou city established the free and public“Linyi Forum” in January of 2009. Different topics on politics, economy, classic literature, health, education, social etiquettes, and etc. were selected for the forum, which helped to expand people’s horizon and upgrade people’s quality.

Books are the ladder for the progress of human civilization. “Daily reading, monthly discussion” activity was held by Chenzhou city in 2013. Over 2100 reading bars were set in the departments, enterprises, schools, communities, villages and towns, which enabled people to establish “10-minute reading circle” easily. Qin Aimin- one of the residents of Tongxin community of Beihu district was reading book in the leisure reading bar of his community when reporters visited there. Qin said: “there is much free time after retirement, but this leisure reading bar helped to enrich our spiritual life.”

Promoting harmonious with entertainment

“Happy Xiaoxiang- Beautiful Chenzhou, My family” – a mass art and literature performance was operated on August 15, 2014. Colorful programs with Chenzhou local features were performed by people.

“Mass people are the leading roles and stars in the performance” that was the key point for the cultural activity “Happy Xiaoxiang- Beautiful Chenzhou, My family” launched by Chenzhou city in last year. People can show themselves on this stage with their favorite performances. This kind of contest not only provides a stage for people to show themselves, but enrich their cultural life as well. Some communities established their dance team or band which attracted many residents to join in. Fan Xiaomei who was the fan of mahjong became the fan of dance after joining in the dance team of her community. Fan said: “entertainment is the favoring agent to daily life and social harmonious. Dancing makes me more vigorous beautiful and optimistic. ”

“People’s grand stage- enjoying fun together” “People’s grand stage”was established in 2011 that all citizens were capable to perform their programs there. Beihu park, Longnv hot spring, Suxianling, Yuhou street and some other places were set with such kind of stages to encourage people to show themselves.

Leading the fashion with morality

Besides the advanced culture, virtue is also an important aspect for social civilization. By holding some theme practicing activities as “promoting and cultivating national spirit”, “public moral awareness day”, “being a moralist” , and etc., the moral sense has been around the people and all are aware of being civilized and moral citizens.

Some columns as “good man at your side”, “the most beautiful Chenzhou people” and others were popularized in Chenzhou city to express the positive energy to Chenzhou people with the great examples. Reward for moral models, and other propaganda work on the promotion of moral models were carried out in Chenzhou city. People were impressed by the models morality.

Xianguang were rewarded with national and Hunan provincial moral model reward. All their stories encouraged Chenzhou people to keep upgrading morality.
