The drizzle mist makes Suxian district where is located along Xiang-Yue ancient road like covering with a veil in the early spring. “Rhino well has been cleaned, so it becomes the main water source for us to make tea every day.” Li Honghua who lives near the well gladly said to the reporters.

Rhino well is located in Suxian section of Xiang-Yue ancient road which was used to be an important road channel for the connection of Hunan, Guangdong and the South China Sea in Ming and Qing Dynasty. During that 500years, it had deepening influence on society, politic, economic development and communication of national culture. The ancient road started from Shuiniuwan, Shaoguan city, Guangdong province and ended at Yuhou street, Suxian district, Chenzhou city, Hunan province.

In recent years, Suxian District Party Committee and Suxian Government played much more attention on the protection of Xiang-Yue ancient road. The Secretary of Suxian District Party Committee and Chief of Suxian District investigated the ancient road for many times and placed the special instruction on its protection. Some experts of relative departments and cultural relic were invited to take investigation on the ancient road in the end of last year. At the meantime, Nuclear Industry Reconnaissance Institute was hired to explore and measure the ancient road. Some feasible suggestions on the recovering, protection and development of the ancient road were presented by the institute. Furthermore, it jointed with Chenzhou Urban Planning and Design Institute to handle the design with professional team. Rhino well and other three ancient wells were cleaned in 2014 and were set with the marks of protection.

It was learned that series Hunan provincial, Chenzhou municipal and Suxian district level culture relics protection units as Li’s dwelling, stage of Wenchang Palace, Rhino well, Shuixing building, Defu building, chastity archway, ancient restaurant, ancient pavilion, flag paving of Luoma ancient road, and etc. were along Suxian section of Xiang-Yue ancient road. The plan for protection of Xiang-Yue ancient road was estimated to be finished in April-May, 2015.
