Recently, when reporters arrived at some villages of Yiliu town, Yizhang county, different species of seedlings were being cultivated well in the fields.

Along with its development of grain industry, Yiliu town adjusted the agricultural structure. Focused on the breakthrough of characteristic agriculture, it carried out scaled production and industrialization operation to improve rural economy and figured out the development path of agricultural industry.

Yiliu town placed more investments on modern agriculture and adjustment of agricultural structure. Followed the regional layout and scaled production and industrialization operation, it promoted the development of five characteristic industries as pig breeding, aquatic products, fruit, tobacco, and green vegetable, which greatly helped to improve its development of advantageous and characteristic agricultural products.

Pig breeding is one of the key advantageous industry of Yiliu town, Currently, there are five pig breeding parks as Tangwei, Baotang, Bei’an, Langanling, and Shuibei’an available there. 36,000 pigs were ready for slaughter in the first quarter of 2016. As stated by the town, it would accelerate the construction of five breeding parks, and popularize some new and healthier breeding models as energy saving, environment-friendly, micro-ecology fermentation, and etc. It would also pay more attention on the improvement of breed, expansion of breeding scale, and construction of professional breeding village and group to enlarge the slaughtering rate to be 120,000 pigs/ year.

“Shijietou village’s cucumber” is one of the most famous brands of Yiliu town, which is favored by Hunan and Guangdong people. Focused on the popularizing the brand of agricultural products, the town tried great efforts on improving contract farming to upgrade the added value of agricultural products and extend industrial chain, which gain win-win profits for the farmers. In 2016, 2600mu tobacco leaves and 3000mu navel oranges have been cultivated in the town. It planned to add 3000mu corns, 1000mu peppers, 2500mu watermelons, 3000mu local cucumbers, and 100mu pollution-free vegetables, which can meet the demands of local market as well as nonlocal supermarkets.

At the meantime, based on special breeding industries as tropical fish breeding in Tanghuli village, the town built 500mu breeding base and encouraged more farmers to join in co-cultivation work of 200mu base, which did not just expand the cultivation scale but drive 500 farmers to join in the industry.
