September 2015, China Water Conservancy Magazine recommended the way of water ecological civilization construction in Chenzhou as the "Chenzhou sample” for the water ecological civilization city construction in southern hills.

Data showed that by the end of 2016, the city has completed the investment of 21.3 billion yuan on construction of water ecological civilization pilot project.10 demonstration projects of Dongjiang Lake Wetland Park protection and construction, etc have basically completed. 20 indicators of 25 pilot target system indicators have reached or exceeded the target value. 5 national water conservancy scenic spots have been built and the drinking water safety problem of 1.575 million people has been solved. The guarantee rate of urban water supply security has reached 100%. In Jiahe County as the province's first urban and rural water supply integration demonstration counties, 200 administrative villages (communities, neighborhood committees) and more than 300 thousand people have used of the tap water, the coverage rate of rural population drinking water security has been up to 92% and the coverage rate of administrative village water has been up to 100%. 138,000 people of Linwu, Jiahe and Guiyang counties in Taojia River valley have drunk of the clean tap water. The water area rate of urban area has been increased to 6.1% from 4.3% before the pilot. The compliance rate of the 47 monitoring sections within the basin has been promoted to 91.5% from less than 60% in 2011. The water quality compliance rate of water functional area has been increased to 84.2%. The West River Ecological Scenery Zone with the total length of 110 km has become the only hydrophilic scenery zone of urban and rural development in our province following the Xiangjiang River Scenery Zone. Building the 5 large hot spring scenic spots of the Rucheng Hot Spring，Yongxing Yuelai Hot Spring, Zixing Tang River Hot Spring, Longnv Hot Spring, Paradise Hot Spring and a number of small towns with hot spring characteristics to make the hot spring to the characteristic business card of Chenzhou ecological water city. Financed of 1660 million yuan to recovery the 752 dangerous reservoirs and the 32 large and small reservoirs of Mangshan, Jiangyuan, Taoyuan, etc have been opened (completed).
