It is the only government-run public tertiary psychiatric hospital in the city, mainly responsible for the prevention and treatment of mental and psychological diseases, rehabilitation, rescue, scientific research and teaching, prevention and treatment of common mental disorders, and pilot business guidance for children and adolescents' mental health services. It also undertakes significant social responsibilities in the city's psychological crisis intervention.

 

The hospital currently has more than 460 staff members, including 76 with associate senior or higher professional titles. There are 12 functional departments and 22 business departments. 

 

Among them, “schizophrenia” is a key specialty construction project in Hunan province, while “psychology” and “geriatric” are key specialty construction projects at the city level. 

 

The municipal mental health center, municipal mental health service center, municipal social psychological service guidance center, municipal psychological counseling and crisis intervention center, municipal mental health assessment service center, and municipal psychiatric quality control center were established here. 

 

It’s a collaborative unit of the the Institute of Mental Health of Central South University, clinical teaching hospital of Xiangnan University. It’s the only designated hospital for judicial appraisal of mental disorders (the only appraisal institution in southern Hunan province with forensic psychiatric appraisal qualifications) as well as  mental and intellectual disability appraisal.

 

The famous actress Yang Likun once received care in the hospital, so did some international friends and politicians from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and other countries. All of them achieved good therapeutic effects. The hospital received high praise from the older generation of central leaders such as Zhou Enlai and Deng Liqun. 

 

The hospital has been awarded the titles of “National Advanced Hospital in Medicine and Health”, “National Excellent Outpatient Clinic for Methadone”, “National Advanced Collective in Public Legal Service Work”, “Advanced Hospital in Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Hunan Province”, and “Advanced Unit in Legal Construction of Medical Institutions in Hunan Province”.
