The Yao people in Rucheng County got together to make “Taohua” (a kind of food with the shape of flower).
Taohua is also known as “Taohuang” or “Cihua”. It requires patience to make this ordinary food. The dough made of glutinous rice and rice should be ferment in a basin before being kneaded with a little syrup and black sesame seeds.
Then, the dough is kneaded into thin strips on a wooden board, which will be made into petal shapes. Taohua generally consists of six rings and seven rings, which are interlocked and connected by circles.
In many parts of China, six is an auspicious number, which has the meaning of “being smooth”. In the traditional culture, seven is the sum of yin and yang and wuxing, which is secretly in line with the harmony advocated by Confucianism.
Taohua tastes crispy and delicious. It is a perfect combination of color, smell and taste.
