In Shazhou Village, the story of “Half A Quilt” is widely known in China. Three female Red Army soldiers sought shelter in the home of an elderly villager named Xu Jiexiu when passing through the village. Upon their departure, they cut their only quilt in two, leaving half to Xu Jiexiu. 

 

 

China’s General Secretary Xi Jinping told the story at the Ceremony Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Long March on October 21, 2016, which marked the beginning of the development of Shazhou Red Scenic Area. The tourist roads, riverside scenic belt, revolution-themed exhibition museum, Panshi park and ancient villages have been renovated. A series of facilities such as two leisure squares and Shazhou pastoral complex were built. A demonstration village for rural revitalization in accordance with the national 4A scenic spot standard was built. 

 

 

 

Cailing village is located in Nanling Mountains, surrounded by mountains on all sides, with an average altitude of over 800 meters. It has a long history of rice fish farming. Because every family cultivates alpine rice fish and rice, it’s known as the first village of fish rice in China. 

 

 

The rice fish here is cultivated by mountain spring water. Without any feeds and additives, the fish meat is so fresh, delicious and sweet, which is deeply loved by the public. 

 

 

Xihe River ecological scenic belt covers hundreds of villages in Beihu District, Suxian District, Yongxing and Guiyang counties, including Sanhe, Lanwangmiao and Gangjiao villages. It has become a demonstration belt for new rural construction, urban-rural integration development and standard rural housing construction in Chenzhou city. 

 

 

At the opposite bank are mountains and Xihe River. Green willows brush the surface water of the river when the soft wind blows. The warm sunshine, trickling water, winding trails and ancient trees form a beautiful picture.  

 

 

 

 

Liuhuawan Village is located in Sandu Town, Zixing city, a large area of lotus flowers and old buildings attract countless tourists. The ancient village built in the Ming Dynasty has seven ancient residential sites and 375 houses, with an area of nearly 50,000 square meters. With unique architectural structure and exquisite details, it’s the best-preserved southern Hunan’s ancient residential group in Zixing city. The Soviet Site in the village has become a provincial cultural relics protection unit in Hunan in 2012. 

 

 

In recent years, as the sustainable development is becoming popular, Liuhuawan village has focused on developing rural tourism. Tourists can enjoy beautiful scenery while experiencing historical culture. 

 

 

 

Longguiping village is located on the riverside of Wushui river. In front of the village, the Wushui river is like a winding dragon guarding the village. It’s founded in the Emperor Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1566) and has a history of nearly 500 years. 

 

 

It was rated as the fifth batch of protected traditional villages in China, and won many honorary titles such as provincial beautiful village demonstration village, provincial culturally advanced village and provincial civilized transportation demonstration village. 

 

 

 

Jinshan village is located in Tuqiao town, Rucheng county. The most distinctive are the six ancient ancestral halls within one square kilometer. Ye’s Ancestral Hall, Lu’s Ancestral Hall and Li’s Ancestral Hall have been rated as national or municipal key cultural relics protection units respectively. It was rated as a provincial famous historical and cultural village in Hunan province and a national 3A scenic spot in 2010. It was rated as a traditional Chinese village in 2016.
