It was reported that an expert group led by Liu Baoquan- Director of China Place Name Cultural Heritage Reservation and Promotion Association and some leaders of Hunan Civil Affairs Department visited Rucheng county to check its application for cultural heritage of “thousand-year ancient county”.

Liu Baoquan and his team visited Lianxi Acdemy, Wen tower, embroidered garment workshop, Jinshan village of Tuqiao town and some other places of Rucheng county in the morning of August 18, 2014. In the afternoon, a symposium was held in the meeting room of Rucheng County’s Civil Center. The principals of relative departments and the staffs who were in charge of the application work attended the conference.

After listening to the working report on the application work delivered by Rucheng county, the inspection tem considered that Rucheng county was with ancient and unique geographical and cultural landscapes and well protected the ancient cultural heritage. Liu presented a detailed introduction of the background, procedures and requirements for the application of thousand-year ancient county on the conference, and presented some comments and suggestion to Rucheng county on the basis of its practical condition. Liu required that Rucheng county should promote the economic development with the assistance of application work; should well explore the historic and cultural resources of the county to carry forward traditional culture; should perfect the application materials; and should advocate the masses to join in the application work. At the meantime, all departments should work together to promote the application work and fulfill it successfully.

Fang Nanling- Secretary of Rucheng County’s Party Committee stated that Rucheng county would carry out the application work well. Better planning and more efficient measures would be figured out by the county to upgrade the core competitiveness and ensure it to meet national approval standards. Enhanced protection work would be carried out by the county on the process of application.

It was introduced that “thousand-year ancient county” was one of the key projects of “China Place name cultural heritage reservation project” launched by China branch of UN’s place name experts group and China Place Name Institute. It was purposely to select out the ancient county with long history and abundant culture to proceed the protection and propaganda of “thousand-year ancient county” nationwide even worldwide.
